Eleventh Annual English Speaking Union Shakespeare Monologue Competition
Eleventh Annual English Speaking Union Shakespeare Monologue Competition

This past Monday, February 8, seven intrepid upper school students participated in the eleventh annual English Speaking Union Shakespeare Monologue Competition held at TVS. Two joined via a Zoom call and the rest appeared in person. The competition was held on the outdoor stage being constructed at the bottom of the MS/US Library hill for the middle and upper school spring performances and broadcast to upper school advisories on Zoom. The seven competitors were:

(via Zoom)
Callie Mitchell
Taryn Parker-Richmond

(in person)
Gage Brazell
Maura Kahuda
Abby Everett
Peyton Randolph
Wish Lorimer

Wish took first place, with Maura and Gage taking second and third places, respectively. Wish will now add a sonnet to his repertoire and videotape a performance of both sonnet and monologue to be submitted to the regional competition. The winner of that competition will advance to nationals.

Congratulations to all the performers for their accomplishments in the competition. Thanks also go to Mr. Kahuda for his support with the scheduling of the competition and to Mr. Van Anthony Williams and Mr. Willie Byrum and their tech theater student crew for their assistance on the technical side.
