In-Person Exchanges

Since 2012, TVS families have home-hosted:

• 178 Middle/Upper School students (Australia, Austria, Brazil, China, Colombia, Germany, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Scotland, & Spain);

• 24 chaperone-teachers (China, Germany, Japan, & Mexico);

• 34 International Assistant Teachers (Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden, & Switzerland);

• 7 full-time International Students (China & South Korea);

• 2 student researchers (The Netherlands; Sweden); and

• 1 Lower School teacher (England)

• In 2020-21, 70 TVS students (grades 1-12) virtually hosted 66 students from Germany, Hungary, Japan, Sweden, and Taiwan.

Additionally, TVS students and parents have shared their heritage cultures with our students (e.g., from India, Israel, Kenya, & Nigeria), and other special international visitors to campus have included:

• The Mayor of Friesing (Germany) and his wife--the Friesing Mayor and Fort Worth’s Mayor Price were interviewed during a special Upper School assembly;

• The Zuzu African Performers (Kenya) entertained our Middle/Upper Schools;

• A professor from Fukuoka Women's University (Japan) visited to learn more about TVS;

• A local holocaust survivor from the former Czechoslovakia spoke with our 8th graders about his experiences and about being an “upstander” against hate; 

• 30+ Higher Education faculty from Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Portugal, Belgium, China (mainland and Taiwan) toured our campus as part TVS’ partnership with the European Teacher Education Network

TVS has a long history of faculty-led trips abroad. Faculty/Staff, students, parents, and alumni also travel extensively on their own (to over 110 countries, according a 2011 survey of the entire TVS community).

• 2020, 2021: All trips were postponed to 2022 because of COVID-19
• 2019: Australia (1:1 Exchange), Austria (TOE Beyond), China (Language/History/Homestay), Scotland (1:1 Exchange), Spain (Language/Culture/Homestay)
• 2018: Australia (1:1 Exchange), the Bahamas (TOE Beyond), England (Shakespeare/British Theatre), Quebec (Language/Culture /Homestay)
• 2017: Swaziland (Service/Sister City/Cultural exchange), Peru (T.O.E. Beyond), Costa Rica (T.O.E. Beyond), and Australia (1:1 Exchange);
• 2016: Italy (Historical/Cultural experience) China (Language/History /Homestay), the Bahamas (T.O.E. Beyond), and Costa Rica (Biology exploration);
• 2015: Italy (3 TVS students & 2 TVS coaches represented Fort Worth and the USA in Reggio Emilia's global youth sports competitions--our team took home GOLD), Austria (T.O.E. Beyond), Spain (Language/Homestay/Cultural immersion), and England (Shakespeare/British Theatre)
• 2014: China (Language/History/Homestay), Ethiopia (Service-Learning/Cultural experience), and Bahamas (T.O.E. Beyond )
