Forty six students from the sixth grade visited various schools as part of the Emerging Leader Program associated with Monarch Project 6. The students worked with first graders at Tanglewood and Ridglea Hills Elementary over the past four days. They taught the children about the monarch butterfly life cycle and the importance of milkweed. The students showed the first graders how to identify the monarch larva, chrysalis and gender. Another group went to Montessori School of Arlington to work with fourth, fifth and sixth graders. They demonstrated how to tag, collect data, and prepare slides of monarch wings and their structure. The session ended with a release of the tagged monarchs on their campus. It was a successful collaboration and showcased the TVS student and their leadership in the community.
The Betty Buckley Awards are given for excellence in high school theatre. Five TVS students received a nomination, and each student was nominated for work done on the musical "Smile," presented in October.
