This year the TVS debate team attended 19 tournaments, and we had 26 students participate in a tournament at some point over the course of the season. We advanced 11 different students to elimination rounds, with 15 appearances in individual event elimination rounds (Extemporaneous Speaking, Impromptu Speaking, and Original Oratory) and 25 appearances in debate elimination rounds (Policy, Public Forum, Lincoln Douglas, and Congress). The team earned a total of 45 new honor society degrees over the course of the year.
In collaboration with Backwoods, our TVS TOE outdoor store partner, first- through eighth-grade students participated in the Telluride Mountainfilm Festival student program. Students viewed a number of outstanding film selections, and Colin Sullivan, a teacher and Mountainfilm host, engaged them in thoughtful discussions of the films.
